The SpaAsia Crystal Awards comprises 18 categories chosen to become the unequivocal endorsement of the best regardless of size. To read the submission criteria for each category, please click on 'criteria'. You are required to purchase the Submission Form(s) before making your nomination(s). Each form is priced at USD150. Please note that deadline for submissions is May 30, 2008.

- Incorporates the overall spa philosophy, specific or general, into every training session.
- Implements a system of on-going performance appraisal that is used to guide future training initiatives and staff development.
- Recognizes the importance of on-going training - both on-the-job and classroom-based - to the delivery of consistent service excellence, the career growth of the staff and the financial sustainability of their business through committed financial investment.
- Incorporates training beyond technical skills to include the broader spa experience areas including treatment benefits, behavior and attitude, duty of care and customer service skills.
- Submissions must include a copy of the 2008 training plan, outlining in-house training which has (and will) take place.

- Has a comprehensive curriculum which aims to develop values, skills, knowledge and attitudes of the individual learner while reflecting actual and evolving needs of the spa and wellness industry (by keeping "its ear on the ground" and initiating Training Needs Analysis, as appropriate).
- Uses a holistic approach to developing the learner: subjects are geared towards the development of the body, mind and spirit of the learner.
- Provides opportunities for real life learning and application, e.g. case studies, on the job application, industry research.
- Has an experienced faculty with at least 10 years of collective spa and wellness experience both from the International and local markets and are highly credible in the local spa and wellness industry.
- Has a system, which monitors quality of learning and effectiveness of faculty and the Academy, i.e. post workshop feedback forms with enhancement and corrective measures in place to respond to feedback received.
- Produces skilled graduates with the right values and are highly sought after by top spas and have no difficulty finding jobs.
- Have the relevant accreditations with complete local and national operating license/permits. Academy should also be accredited by at least one credible international therapy examination body (CIBTAC, ITEC, CIDESCO).
- Has the facility to train at least 12 trainees on practical and theoretical classes. Facilities must meet the essential requirements of safety, security and sanitation.

- Provides individual health and lifestyle consultations with each client in order to identify immediate and long term treatment requirements and to ensure each client is treated individually.

- A strong dedication and pledge towards seeking and providing excellence and the best product quality - eco-friendly, eco-sustainability, pure, organic, innovative and technologically/scientifically advanced.
- Goes beyond dictated industry trends and dares to be different - unique.
- Supports its spa partners to deliver consistent excellence over time by providing quality training and education.
- Provides retail training and makes available samples for staff to experience the products themselves.
- Provides regular in-house training for the spa account as a minimum bi-annually.
- The Menu of services is required for two Spa accounts as part of the submission process. Should the nominee reach the finals, one or both of the spas identified will undergo a secret shopping audit. Vouchers will need to be supplied for both.
- Submissions must include one (1) copy of the body treatment steps taken from the training manual.

What is a 'SPA'?
To qualify for some categories, a particular establishment must embrace SpaAsia’s definition of a ‘spa’. We define a ‘spa’ as a place where:
- A person goes to improve their wellness in body, mind and spirit
- The spa operator and all their staff make a connection with the guest in body, mind and spirit
- The spa experience is delivered to guests through the vehicles of their five senses
- The guest's expectations of wellness are met
- The business is driven with integrity and a commitment to quality

Spa Categories
Day Spas
Refer to day facilities catering mostly to local clientele. It is a stand-alone operation and does not offer accommodation. Its spa menu offers an hour or a couple of hours to a full day treatment package that ranges from facials to therapeutic massages. Therapies may vary from pampering beauty to holistic therapies but customized to shorter multiple visits.
Petite Day Spa
Refer to day facilities - which can allocate SIX (6) or less treatment beds - catering mostly to local clientele. It is a stand-alone operation and does not offer accommodation. Its spa menu offers an hour or a couple of hours to a full day treatment package that ranges from facials to therapeutic massages. Therapies may vary from pampering beauty to holistic therapies but customized to shorter multiple visits.
Destination Spas
Refer to an all encompassing dedicated spa and wellness facility. Accommodation is a supporting facility to the spa activities. The menu offers an all-inclusive programme for health, longevity, wellness and beauty – such as weight loss, stress management, yoga and meditation – that integrate fitness, spa treatments, healthy cuisine and lifestyle consultation. Average stays range from a few days to a week or longer.
Hotel Spas
Refer to urban spas within city hotels. The spa menu is dedicated to day treatments or a quick pampering fix for beauty and wellness. It ranges from budget to luxury, pampering beauty to holistic wellness.
Boutique Hotel Spas
A boutique hotel is a small luxury hotel which offers a unique concept and the ultimate in personalized comfort. Location varies from hip city centres, a manor in the country, a safari in Africa or a secluded island. The spa should be an oasis of luxurious serenity and adds to the character of the hotel. The hotels in this category comprises less than FORTY (40) rooms.
Resort Spas
Refer to dedicated spa facilities within a resort. It offers a more extensive menu that includes packages or programmes that cater for a few days or more. The resort spa is secondary to the hotel and residences.
Wellness Retreats
Refers to destinations that go beyond the usual spa resort offerings. They are cultivated as a retreat, be it for health, emotional or spiritual aspect or motivation. The programmes are designed as a unique and permanent guide towards a lifestyle change – focusing on the overall health and longevity of the body, mind and soul. At best, it is in keeping with the latest in luxury, style and comfort. This category also incorporates destinations that have the natural potential to allow one to journey inwards for self discovery and inner soul search – a place that encourages the seeking of balance within, through its therapeutic natural ambience.
